Description
Amedeo Modigliani portrays Lunia Czechowska in profile, her warm-colored face and red hair set against a muted green background. A white collar brightens the lower part of the portrait. The long nose and extended neck give the silhouette a clear, uninterrupted line.
The side view makes contour especially expressive. The pale shirt and green surroundings hold the warmer head in balance, while the restrained treatment of the features keeps the image spare. Modigliani turns the sitter’s quiet profile into an arrangement of distinct, harmonious shapes.
