About Water Lilies (Agapanthus)
Claude Monet’s Water Lilies (Agapanthus), painted around 1915–1926, draws the viewer into the pond at his garden in Giverny. Blue, purple and green spread across the water, interrupted by pale blossoms and shifting reflections. With no horizon or visible banks, the wide composition lets the pond seem to continue beyond the picture. The mingling of surface and reflected light gives this late work its immersive character. The original painting belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
