Description
Albert Bierstadt’s Mount Corcoran presents a still lake beneath a dramatic range of high peaks. Tall trees gather along the right bank, their warm trunks contrasting with cool water and clouded mountains. Rocks and fallen wood make the near shore feel close and tangible.
Painted around 1876–1877, the landscape balances calm reflections with the restless forms of clouds and crags. Light finds the snow and shoreline while leaving much of the valley subdued. The lake gives the viewer a quiet approach to the immense mountain setting.
