Description
The Annunciation appears here in a monochrome view, with the winged angel Gabriel kneeling at the left and Mary kneeling at the right, her hands joined in prayer. A prominent column divides the figures, while doors, windows and an arched opening define the quiet interior. The tempera painting is attributed to the workshop of Fra Filippo Lippi.
The figures’ gestures and the interval between them make the announcement legible as a meeting. Architecture supplies an order within which the sacred event can acquire a human scale. In the represented monochrome view, differences of tone carry attention across forms whose original colors are not described here. The artwork’s date is not established in the museum record. Its effect remains grounded in the documented subject and workshop tradition, with the relationship between the kneeling figures held at the center.
