About Poplars in the Sun
In Poplars in the Sun (1891), Claude Monet builds a bright landscape around three tall trees. Their warm trunks rise through green and rose-colored foliage against a blue sky scattered with pale clouds. Reflections continue the vertical rhythm into the water below, while smaller trees curve away along the bank. The airy color and repeated forms give the scene a gentle, decorative movement. The original painting belongs to the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo.
