Description

Claude Monet’s Gardener’s House at Antibes gathers a sunlit house, delicate trees, and distant blue water into a lively Mediterranean scene. Warm pinks and terra-cotta tones give the building a welcoming presence, while fresh greens and flickering touches of color soften its edges. Slender branches stretch across the view, bringing the garden and the sea into a single airy composition.

Painted in 1888 during Monet’s stay at Antibes, the work reflects his delight in the light and vegetation of southern France. Its loose brushwork makes even the quiet house seem responsive to the atmosphere around it. The original belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
