Description
Joan Miró’s The Birth of the World sets a few crisp shapes against a mottled, freely worked background. A red circle, pale disc, dark triangle, and thin lines appear to float within washes of gray, brown, and blue. The surface retains traces of fluid movement.
The contrast between loose background and precise signs gives the image its distinctive energy. Small forms suggest possibilities without settling into a conventional scene. Miró makes empty space active, allowing each shape to feel both separate and connected to the surrounding marks.
