Description
Three men exchange gestures before a cluster of town buildings in this illustration to Andria. A robed figure at the left faces two companions whose elaborate hats and closely set bodies give them a distinct presence. The open ground between the groups becomes the space of their conversation, while the surrounding streets suggest a larger world beyond the encounter.
This nineteenth-century reprint preserves Albrecht Dürer’s woodcut design for Terence’s comedy. The theatrical energy emerges through stance and hand movement rather than elaborate scenery. Strong outlines and patterned clothing keep the participants clear, making the small scene feel lively and accessible, with an unfolding exchange implied by the relationship between its three figures.
