Vintage Chinese Stone Rubbing “Music and Dancing” – MCM Framed Taiwan Art

Description

Multicolor Vintage Chinese stone rubbing depicting an animated gathering of traditionally dressed figures engaged in music, dancing, and ceremonial or banquet activities. The composition is rendered in muted green, ochre, brown, and black against an aged parchment-toned background, with a red seal mark at the lower right.

The vintage Chinese stone rubbing is displayed in its original Mid-Century Modern teak-toned wood frame, accented by a wide woven-textile inset and narrow inner wood molding. The combination of ancient Chinese-inspired imagery and restrained 1960s–70s framing gives the piece strong Asian Modern and MCM decorative appeal.

The reverse retains its original “The Art of Stone Rubbing” explanatory label. Similar labeled works were produced and exported by the House of Stone Rubbing in Taipei, Taiwan. The company described its pieces as hand-produced rubbings derived from stone carvings associated with ancient Chinese dynasties. Comparable examples are generally dated to the 1960s–70s.

Good vintage condition with age-related toning, mottling and surface variation throughout the rubbing. The wood frame shows light scratches and edge wear consistent with age.
