Description
This vintage East Asian floral and butterfly painting brings together a luminous gold-colored ground, crisp botanical outlines and a delicate sense of movement. A large white blossom, accented with pale yellow and soft green, anchors the composition beside long, sweeping leaves. Smaller red flowers follow a branching stem across the surface, while a blue butterfly hovers in the open space above. The contrast between the richly colored blossoms and the quiet background gives the narrow vertical composition a balanced, airy character.
Painted in gouache on gold silk, the work is presented with a patterned fabric mat and a slim gilt frame. A two-character inscription and red seal appear at the lower right; the artist has not been reliably identified and is recorded as Unknown. The combination of the textile surface, decorative mat and restrained frame makes the physical presentation an integral part of the piece. Its precise date and country of origin are unconfirmed, so no more specific attribution is offered.
The framed piece measures approximately 20 inches high by 12¼ inches wide. Minor chips and wear are present on the frame. The reverse photograph also shows small punctures in the backing paper and wear at a lower corner.
