Description
Pots of red geraniums crown the stone pillars of a garden entrance in this original watercolor and pencil work by Beth Eidelberg. An ornate pale gate sits between irregular masonry walls, with layered green foliage filling the space beyond. Transparent washes of gray, ochre and blue describe the stones and dappled shadows, while the flowers add bright accents to the otherwise gentle palette.
Eidelberg’s work often brings architecture and gardens into close conversation, and this intimate scene rewards attention to both. Fine drawn lines establish the structure of the wall and gate beneath the freer watercolor passages, giving the composition clarity without losing its airy character. The work is signed at the lower right and is presented with a double mat and a broad, ridged gold-tone frame.
Overall framed dimensions are approximately 15 inches high by 21 inches wide. Foxing and discoloration are visible on the mats, with light wear to the frame. The reverse paper backing shows staining, creases and tears. Please review all photographs, particularly the mat and reverse, when assessing condition.
