Description
The Lapin Agile by Maurice Utrillo depicts the Montmartre cabaret and a narrow street climbing beside it. In this composition from around 1913, warm roofs and pale walls meet leafy trees, a white fence and small figures along the lane. The rising street leads the eye past the buildings, giving the compact scene depth and a quiet sense of movement.
Utrillo builds the atmosphere through the textures of plaster, stone and foliage rather than dramatic action. The muted colors allow the familiar shapes of the neighborhood to take center stage. This giclée reproduction follows the version held by Nagoya City Art Museum and offers a Parisian architectural subject with an intimate, lived-in character.
