Description
Christ Crowned with Thorns shows Jesus seated as tormentors use long rods to press the thorny crown onto his head. A kneeling man presents a reed in mock homage while observers stand nearby. The surrounding arches frame the figures, emphasizing the contrast between Christ’s stillness and their forceful gestures.
The image translates Dürer’s narrative design into the finely worked lines of engraving. Closely spaced marks distinguish fabric, bodies and the surrounding setting, keeping the story vivid at a small scale. This later interpretation preserves the direct emotional appeal of the composition while remaining a work after Dürer.
