Description
Old Man with Beard, Fur Cap, and Velvet Cloak is an etching by Rembrandt van Rijn, dated about 1631. The seated figure looks toward the viewer beneath a broad fur cap, while light falls across his face and long beard. Dense lines deepen the shadows of his voluminous cloak.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art identifies this as a second-state impression. Its old paper shows visible toning, spots, and marginal marks that distinguish this particular impression of Old Man with Beard, Fur Cap, and Velvet Cloak.
