Description
In The Abduction of Rebecca, figures lift Rebecca toward a horse as smoke and flame heighten the urgency of the scene. Delacroix draws the action into a twisting group, setting pale fabric against darker bodies and brilliant color.
The diagonal movement links the foreground figures to the turbulent background. Rebecca’s suspended form becomes the emotional center of a composition charged with physical effort and uncertainty. The work is by Eugène Delacroix.
