Description
Alfred Sisley’s Sunset at Port Marly looks down a village road beneath a sky filled with rose and lavender light. Houses and trees border the route, while small figures and carts give scale to the descending street. The warm glow near the horizon draws the eye through the buildings toward the distance.
Loose strokes unite the road, foliage, and clouds in a shared evening atmosphere. Sisley allows the changing sky to influence the colors of the village without overwhelming its familiar forms. The result is a quiet scene of daily life, made distinctive by the fleeting light at the close of the day.
