Description
Peter Paul Rubens’s The Lion Hunt brings horses, riders, and lions together in a tightly packed struggle. A pale horse twists near the center, while raised weapons and sweeping red fabric cut through the surrounding movement. Bodies overlap in forceful, opposing directions.
Painted in 1621, the scene concentrates on the climax of action. Curved animal forms and sharp diagonals keep the eye moving between danger and response. Rubens gives the encounter its intensity through muscular weight, vivid light, and the compression of many gestures into one space.
