Description
Grotesque figures cluster together in the air in Bon Voyage, turning the title’s cheerful farewell into something more unsettling. Their shared movement gives the encounter a strange cohesion, while the fantastic company makes the journey difficult to imagine as ordinary travel. Goya allows departure to become a passage into an unfamiliar and unstable world.
The print belongs to Los Caprichos and combines etching, aquatint and burin, giving the impossible gathering a closely worked presence. Its dark humor comes from the contrast between a familiar expression of goodwill and the beings to whom it seems addressed. The image remains compelling through that mismatch, inviting the viewer to examine a flight whose energy and company suggest a destination well beyond conventional experience.
