Description
In Nuit Blanche, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec places a seated man in profile within dense darkness. He faces left toward a bright opening near a window, allowing the pale space to contrast with the surrounding marks. The restricted view concentrates on one wakeful figure, giving a quiet nocturnal interval a substantial presence through dark and light.
Dated 1893, the brush and spatter lithograph with scraper was printed in black on mounted wove paper. Jean Goudezki is credited as author and Edouard Kleinmann as publisher, distinct from Toulouse-Lautrec’s role as artist. The object preserves a particular impression of the nocturnal design, with the printed marks holding the image’s separate identity. The work joins a literary association with a focused graphic subject, making wakefulness part of its lasting pictorial interest.
