Description
Dogs and handlers surround a bull in The Dogs Let Loose on the Bull, creating a crowded encounter of different bodies and competing movements. The animal stands at the center of an imposed confrontation, while the gathering around it makes the scene’s pressure tangible. Goya presents the arena as a space where spectacle depends on force as well as skill.
The design from the Tauromaquia combines etching, aquatint and additional worked marks to give the action a closely observed printed surface. Its interest lies in the relationships among people, dogs and bull, where the event cannot be understood through one figure alone. The image remains compelling through that physical complexity, asking the viewer to follow the encounter without losing sight of the power and vulnerability distributed among its participants.
