Description
Reclining Nude with Loose Hair places a warm-toned figure across a dark, simplified setting. Her head remains upright at the left, supported by an elbow near a blue cushion, while the body extends toward the right and the bent knees rise near the upper edge. Amedeo Modigliani’s dark contours keep the figure clear against the background, making the long bodily curve the composition’s main movement.
Painted in 1917 in oil on canvas, the work is held by the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka. The museum emphasizes its reduced interior and bold cropping, which bring the model unusually close to the picture’s boundaries. Those choices give the body a concentrated presence: the surrounding setting remains economical, while the face, supporting arm and extended form carry the visual encounter.
