About Waterloo Bridge
Claude Monet’s Waterloo Bridge, dated 1901, captures the Thames in pale, luminous color. In this pastel on blue paper, the bridge’s low arches emerge through a veil of white, lavender and soft blue. Its long horizontal span anchors a scene whose edges seem to dissolve into the surrounding haze. The original pastel belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
