Description
About Impression Sunrise
Claude Monet’s Impression Sunrise (1872) presents the harbor at Le Havre through layers of morning mist. A vivid orange sun hangs above the water, its broken reflection standing out against blue-gray tones. Small boats occupy the foreground, while masts, cranes and chimneys emerge faintly in the distance. Loose brushwork makes the atmosphere more immediate than the details of the port. Painted from a hotel overlooking the harbor, the original oil painting is held by the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris.
