About The Rio Della Salute
Claude Monet’s The Rio Della Salute (1908) draws the viewer into a narrow Venetian canal between softly glowing buildings. A small arched bridge crosses the water, while windows, balconies and warm walls dissolve into reflections below. Blue, rose and muted green brushstrokes give the architecture a hazy lightness. Painted during Monet’s stay in Venice, the scene favors an intimate waterway over the city’s grander landmarks. The original oil painting belongs to the Hasso Plattner Collection at Museum Barberini in Potsdam.
