Description
Tantalus by Francisco de Goya centers on a man supporting a limp woman, their bodies pressed together in a stark scene of distress. His hands lifted to his face and the weight of her reclining figure create a powerful contrast of effort and helplessness.
Dark passages surround the figures while lighter areas pick out their faces and clothing. The closely grouped forms leave little space for distraction, concentrating attention on the tension of their close grouping.
