Description
Saint Peter by Albrecht Dürer stands close to the viewer with a large key rising beside his shoulder. The haloed figure wears a broad robe whose folds give the small composition weight and movement. A low landscape beyond provides a simple setting, while the book and key keep the apostle’s familiar devotional identity clear.
In this compact woodcut, the strongly marked contours make the figure immediately readable. The key’s angular shape contrasts with the curved halo and layered cloth, creating interest within the spare arrangement. Dürer gives the saint a sturdy human presence rather than an elaborate narrative setting, allowing a few carefully placed forms to create an image of dignity, attentiveness and recognizable sacred character.
