Description
The Chariot of Apollo by Odilon Redon carries its mythological subject through an open expanse of blue, rose and gold. Horses rise toward the upper left, pulling a chariot and its small figure across banks of luminous clouds. The Metropolitan Museum of Art dates this version to 1905–16.
Without a visible ground below, the scene feels suspended in an imagined sky. The reins connect the distant horses to the charioteer, drawing a fine line through the broad areas of color. Redon allows the atmosphere to dominate the narrative, turning Apollo’s journey into a vision of light and motion rather than a detailed account of classical legend.
