About Odilon Redon
Odilon Redon (1840–1916) was a French artist associated with Symbolism. His work spans painting, pastel, drawing and printmaking, using imagined subjects and suggestive forms to explore a world beyond straightforward observation.
Redon’s early dark drawings and prints, often called his noirs, gave way to increasingly abundant color in his later work. Admired by younger artists including the Nabis and Fauves, he brought a distinctive imaginative sensibility to the development of modern art.
