Description
The Last Supper appears in this engraving after Albrecht Dürer from the Little Passion. Christ sits at the center of a crowded table with one disciple leaning against him. The surrounding men exchange glances and gestures, while dishes and vessels bring a familiar domestic detail to the gathering. A radiant halo distinguishes the central figure without separating him from the close companionship of the meal.
The image translates Dürer’s narrative design into the finely worked lines of engraving. The varied faces and overlapping shoulders make the room feel intimate even as the story approaches its turning point. Closely spaced marks distinguish fabric, bodies and the surrounding setting, keeping the story vivid at a small scale. This later interpretation preserves the direct emotional appeal of the composition while remaining a work after Dürer.
