Description
The Resurrection shows Christ rising above the tomb as the figures below respond with confusion and astonishment. His upright body and flowing drapery form the clear center of the composition, while soldiers crowd around the heavy stone setting. The Resurrection contrasts that restless lower world with the commanding presence of the figure who has overcome it.
Within the engraved Passion, the image brings the narrative toward triumph through a compact arrangement of body, cloth and light. Strong diagonal gestures below sharpen the stability of Christ’s central position. The fine network of lines gives substance to armor and masonry while allowing the surrounding radiance to feel expansive. Its strength comes from this meeting of the physical and the miraculous: the weight of the tomb remains visible, even as its power has been broken.
