Description
Tauromaquia Plate 31 by Francisco Goya turns smoke, gesture and shifting light into a scene of mounting tension. A bull stands in the foreground as men confront it with raised arms and flowing capes. A pale cloud opens between them, while mounted figures and a crowded barrier establish the larger arena beyond.
The 1816 work belongs to La Tauromaquia and depicts banderillas fitted with firecrackers. Goya gives the bull a commanding physical presence, describing its curved horns and heavy body with dense lines. Against that solidity, the smoke and fluttering cloth feel fleeting and unstable. The contrast makes the image compelling as a study of motion, uncertainty and the volatile energy of the ring.
