Description
Sulking by Edgar Degas places two figures in a room crowded with papers, books, and framed pictures. A woman leans over the back of a chair, while a man sits at a desk with his arms folded and his head lowered.
A racing scene on the wall brings a burst of movement into the otherwise still interior. Warm wood tones and the woman’s cool gray-blue dress sharpen the contrast between the two figures. Their different gazes and postures leave the relationship unresolved, giving Sulking its quiet dramatic tension.
