Description
In Ovid among the Scythians, Delacroix places a gathering of figures within a wide landscape of hills, trees and distant water. The reclining poet at the left is approached by companions, while a dark horse gives weight to the right side.
The broad setting allows the encounter to unfold without crowding it. Earthy foreground colors open into cooler distance, bringing a reflective calm to a scene of exile and human contact. The work is by Eugène Delacroix.
