Description
Cottage near the Entrance to a Wood by Rembrandt gives a rural dwelling an unusually commanding presence. Fluid lines and broad brown washes unite the architecture with the trees, balancing the cottage’s built forms against the looser texture of the woodland.
Signed and dated 1644, the work is an expansive example of Rembrandt’s landscape drawing. Its varied ink tones create depth and atmosphere while preserving the immediacy of a scene closely observed.
