Description
Unholy Union by Francisco de Goya uses ink and wash to give an unsettling subject a concentrated graphic presence. The title directs attention to a troubling bond, while the contrast between dark marks and the paper keeps the image stark and immediate.
This drawing is dated either around 1801–3 or around 1813–19. Its combination of brushwork and pen traces reveals the expressive range Goya could achieve with a limited palette.
