Description
Theatrical Troupe on the Road by Eugène Delacroix follows a traveling company gathered around a crowded wagon. Costumes, instruments and stage furnishings rise above the figures, while a mounted rider and a walking musician add to the procession’s lively rhythm.
Made in 1818 with pen, brown ink and watercolor over graphite, the drawing combines delicate color with humorous detail. Its long horizontal arrangement lets the small incidents unfold like a scene moving across a stage.
