Description

Upper Section of the Right Portal surrounds a hanging stag skin with richly ornamented architecture, a drummer and a griffon. Below, a row of Roman emperors presents a stately rhythm of crowns, faces and shields.

The sheet forms part of The Arch of Honor for Emperor Maximilian I. Albrecht Dürer designed the drummer and griffon; Hans Springinklee designed the emperors and the stag-skin motif after Dürer. Dense woodcut linework brings their elaborate historical pageant to life.
