Description
Edvard Munch’s The Kiss brings two embracing figures together in a dim interior. Their bodies form a closely joined shape, and their faces merge where they meet. A narrow glimpse of light at the left separates the room from the world outside, while the rest of the setting dissolves into deep blue, green, and red tones.
In this 1897 painting, Munch makes the embrace feel absorbing and self-contained. Broad contours draw the couple into one continuous form, leaving little distance between them. The image invites reflection on intimacy and the ways a shared moment can seem to shut out its surroundings.
