Description
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s The Red Tower in Halle places a monumental tower at the center of a sharply tilted city square. Orange streets bend around its base, while pale buildings and church spires crowd the background. High clouds and forceful diagonal lines give the scene a restless, almost shifting structure.
Painted in 1915, the work transforms a recognizable urban landmark through expressive color and perspective. The tower feels imposing within a space that refuses to settle into conventional balance. Kirchner makes the city more than a topographical view, giving its architecture a vivid sense of tension and movement.
