Description
Das Urteil des Paris brings three female nudes into a sharply colored studio scene. A seated figure at the left contrasts with the taller forms in the center and right, while yellow and green tones press against the dark, angular background. A red floral accent at the side adds another sharp contrast. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner makes the figures’ elongated contours part of the interior’s restless structure.
Painted in 1913 in oil on canvas, the work belongs to the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum collection and has another painting on its reverse. The museum’s acquisition record identifies Gerda Schilling at the left and center and Erna Schilling at the right. Their repeated and contrasting appearances give the composition a personal context, while the mythological title adds another layer to an image rooted in Kirchner’s own studio world.
