About Irises in Monet’s Garden
Claude Monet’s Irises in Monet’s Garden (1900) fills the foreground with violet blossoms and green leaves along a narrow garden path. Slender tree trunks rise behind the flower beds, with glimpses of the house appearing through the foliage. Repeated touches of purple, pink and blue give the planted rows a lively rhythm, while warm earth tones guide the eye into the scene. Also titled The Artist’s Garden at Giverny, the painting celebrates the garden Monet cultivated as a subject for his art. The original belongs to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
