About El Jaleo
Painted in 1882, John Singer Sargent’s El Jaleo captures the energy of a flamenco performance, with a dancer accompanied by singers and guitarists. Inspired by performances Sargent saw during his travels in Spain, the work became an early success at the Paris Salon. The original painting belongs to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
