Description

In Brick Factory at Tortosa, Pablo Picasso turns an industrial landscape into a compact arrangement of angular volumes. Ochre buildings overlap and rise across the foreground, their roofs and walls simplified into planes that seem to tilt toward the viewer. Green palms introduce a different rhythm above them, while the pale, divided sky echoes the geometry of the built forms.

Painted in oil on canvas in 1909, the work treats the landscape as a structure to be reassembled rather than a view to be copied smoothly. Differences of light and color make the blocks feel solid, yet their shifting relationships unsettle a single, fixed perspective. The factory becomes an absorbing encounter between architecture and pictorial space, where recognizable buildings remain present within a new language of shape.
