Description
Pablo Picasso’s Crouching Woman compresses a seated figure into a rounded, self-contained form. Her lowered head and gathered limbs are enclosed by pale clothing and deep blue fabric. A small vessel rests beside her, while simple blocks of wall and floor leave the figure almost alone in the space.
The narrow blue palette gives the scene its inward mood. Picasso lets the curved back and bent knees carry the expression, with few details to distract from the posture. Light touches on the clothing and head create a fragile focus within the dark, spare surroundings.
