Description
In For You!…, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec brings a man in a dark jacket into the left foreground, seen in a seated profile. A much larger female profile rises behind him toward the right, giving the two figures sharply different scales. Strong gray shapes connect the arrangement, making the encounter depend on the contrast between close foreground presence and an enlarged neighboring face.
Dated 1893, the work is a lithograph on wove paper with yellow, green and turquoise stencil coloring applied by another hand. That distinction separates Toulouse-Lautrec’s printed design from the additional coloring of this impression. Jean Goudezki is credited as author and Edouard Kleinmann as publisher. The work brings image, text association and added color together, preserving a particular version of the design rather than treating every impression as visually identical.
