About Joaquín Sorolla
Joaquín Sorolla (1863–1923) was a Spanish painter born in Valencia, celebrated for his handling of Mediterranean sunlight. His beach scenes, portraits and pictures of daily life combine energetic brushwork with close attention to light, movement and reflected color.
Sorolla built an international reputation through exhibitions and portrait commissions, while repeatedly returning to the Valencian coast. His later Vision of Spain mural cycle for the Hispanic Society of America brought together regional costumes and customs on a monumental scale.
