Description
Albrecht Dürer’s Adoration of the Magi brings rich color and finely observed detail to a familiar sacred encounter. Mary and the infant Christ sit at the left as the kings approach with their gifts. Brilliant robes, gleaming vessels, and carefully described faces stand out against a setting of weathered architecture and distant landscape.
Painted in 1504, the work combines the precision of Northern Renaissance art with a confident arrangement of figures and space. The broken buildings create depth without overwhelming the intimate meeting in the foreground. Dürer’s attention to fabric, objects, and gesture makes the scene both ceremonious and warmly human.
