Description
Vincent van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles transforms a modest room into an expressive arrangement of color and shape. The wooden bed fills the right side, balanced by simple chairs, a small table, and pictures on the walls. The floorboards lead sharply into the space, while broad areas of blue, yellow, and warm brown give each object a clear presence.
The room was Van Gogh’s own bedroom in the Yellow House. Its familiar furnishings offered him a subject through which to explore the feeling of rest and domestic simplicity. Uneven perspective and emphatic outlines make this intimate setting unmistakably his.
