Description
Vincent van Gogh’s letter sketch of his bedroom in Arles turns a familiar interior into a compact drawn arrangement. The bed dominates the right side, receding toward the far wall, while chairs and a small table with bottles occupy the left and center. Framed pictures and the dashed indications of floorboards make the room legible through a few decisive pen lines rather than painted color.
As a letter drawing, the image has the immediacy of an explanation addressed to another person. It sets out the essential organization of the room without reproducing every effect of the painting. Furniture becomes a series of emphatic shapes, while the intervals between objects help make the interior legible. The sketch offers a different encounter with the same private space: a visual account in which a few decisive lines communicate an arrangement and invite the reader to imagine its atmosphere.
