Claude Monet’s Boulevard des Capucines (1873–1874) looks down over a busy Paris street on a cool, hazy day. Tiny strokes suggest pedestrians and carriages beneath a row of bare trees, while tall buildings recede into the pale distance. Seen from an elevated viewpoint, the crowd becomes a lively pattern of dark marks against the boulevard. This vertical composition captures the energy of modern city life through light and movement rather than individual detail. The original belongs to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.
